Adam Summer School – purpose

The 2011 Adam Summer School is presented by the New Zealand String Quartet and will be held in Nelson from 12-20 February 2011. It will provide the opportunity for up to 30 of New Zealand’s best young string players and pianists to commit themselves to eight days of intense chamber music-making under the guidance of the New Zealand String Quartet and pianist Diedre Irons.

Enjoy the balmy setting of mid-summer Nelson and:

  • Benefit from world class coaching from New Zealand’s best chamber musicians
  • Be inspired by an intense period of music-making
  • Work with the best of your peers from throughout New Zealand
  • Participate in daily masterclasses
  • Take advantage of individual instrument teaching with world class New Zealand performers
  • Perform a major chamber music work following a week of in-depth study.

Participants will have one two-hour group coaching session each day.

Opportunities for individual instrument tuition from the tutors have also been built into the daily schedule.

Two public concerts will take place at the conclusion of the school, during which each group will perform.

A Message from the Adam Foundation

Once again my wife Verna and I are delighted to welcome all who attend the Adam Summer School.

Providing an opportunity for talented young musicians to be exposed to top professional performers in an informal holiday environment is one of our more worth-while ventures.

I am convinced that all students will benefit, both musically and socially. Our best wishes to all participants, both musicians and audiences.
